Hello,

I am currently working as a double bassist with the Brussels Philharmonic, in Belgium and I've been teaching double bass since 2009.

I started playing double bass at the age of 12 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Music Conservatory in Aveiro. I continued my studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where I obtained a Bachelor in Music and a Master degree in Music Teaching.
In 2014 I started my Masters in Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and I was also Akademistin at the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester.
I have extensive experience as a Freelancer with various Orchestras such as NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Orquestra Sinfónica de Galicia, Hamburger Symphoniker, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Orquestra da Casa da Música do Porto, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, Dresden Philharmonie, etc.

I was double bass teacher in Portugal at Orfeão de Leiria and at the Conservatory of Music in Alhandra and in Hamburg at Gymnasium Lerchenfeld.

I had the opportunity to teach Advanced students in masterclasses and I am also very interested in helping students on Audition preparation.

Who am I?

Professional musician for almost 20 years, I play and I played many styles, mainly jazz and rock, but also free improvisation, French song, folk and some classical music.

Mostly self-taught with a few years at the Jazz Studio (Antwerp), a short stint at the Brussels Jazz Conservatory (1 year), and recently at the Classical Academy.

With this course I propose to approach the double bass in various forms. The goal here is to have fun while learning at your own pace.

Classics, Jazz or other contemporary forms of music as well as the personal taste of the student will accompany the learning of musical expression.

We will see well on the technical facets of the instrument adapted to any age and any level. But the whole thing will always be at the service of music and in a musical context.

The bow game, the different hand positions, the slap can be as many fun ways to discover the instrument and its different colors.

The Contrabass is a marvelous instrument: powerful, subtle, demanding, astonishing.

Graduated from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris in Jazz specialty and teacher (private individual / replacement in conservatory) for 4 years, I suggest you dive into the heart of his universe.

For this I appreciate relying on a flexible method putting the passion and envy of my students at the forefront.
Meet, establish a dialogue and move forward together towards a common goal: to have fun while making progress!

My horizons:

-The jazz double bass (walking bass, improvisation, sounds, repertoire, rhythm, theory ..)
- the "general" technique (body position, right hand, left hand, flexibility, etc.)
-the classical double bass (sound of the bow, phrasing, study of pieces ...)
- "contrabassistic" culture (operation of the instrument, the undisputed masters, the repertoire in the broad sense ...)

I am also an electric bass player (another wonderful instrument) graduated from the Marne and Chantereine conservatories.

My method remains the same and I love to teach (and constantly learn) the greatest number of styles, repertoire, ranging from Rock to Funk through Pop, hip hop and Cuban music.

Hello! I am Jennifer, double bassist based in Brussels. I enjoy teaching anyone who wants to play the double bass: whether you are just starting out or want to further develop on this magnificent instrument.

Making music is central to my lessons and other aspects are also discussed from there: ensemble playing, technique (pizzicato and/or arco), ear training, theory. Because the double bass is a versatile instrument in so many musical styles, we can also approach this one. I like to share my great passion for all kinds of music.

Graduated from the Lyon Conservatory in cello, musical training and with a double Master's degree in cello and double bass from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels

I give lessons for all levels, all ages.

You like Bach suites for solo cello, the music of Telemann, Chopin, tangos, etc. It is possible to learn music at any age and I would be happy to support you on your journey.

You do not have an instrument, I will lend you one during the first lesson and can guide you in your search for an instrument afterwards.

I teach at my home, at yours in Ixelles, Etterbeek, Saint-Gilles, Forest, Uccle, Watermael-Boitsfort and in Brussels. Possibility of giving lessons by Zoom or other.
